Meet the Berkeley Team Behind Vance Gate Repair Berkeley
We’re the crew that shows up when your gate won’t close at 10 p.m. or your apartment building’s access system starts rejecting fobs on a Sunday morning. Every technician here was hired for hands-on skill and kept for something harder to teach: the habit of explaining what broke before asking for approval to fix it. That combination is what lets us stand behind every job with the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
Our People
Adrian Vance, Owner
I started this company in 2014 after eight years wiring commercial access-control systems for office parks and data centers in the East Bay. The documentation habit I picked up on those jobs, photographing every terminal connection and labeling every relay, became the foundation of what we now call the Haven Standard. I still take field calls when a gate is doing something genuinely unusual, and I still write the flat-price quotes myself when a job involves multiple brands or custom fabrication. Outside of work, I restore vintage motorcycle electrical systems, which has absolutely nothing to do with gates except that both require patience and a good multimeter.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us since 2017 and carries the factory certifications that matter for Berkeley homeowners: LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, and Linear. He’s the technician we send when a gate motor is failing intermittently or when a previous installer left wiring that doesn’t match any diagram we can find. Marcus grew up in Richmond and still lives there with his two kids, which means he knows the microclimates that affect gate hardware, from the salt air near the marina to the heavy fog that swells wooden gates in the Berkeley Hills. His detail: he keeps a handwritten log of every “ghost in the machine” repair he’s solved, and he’s up to 147 entries.
Dana L., Senior Installer
Dana joined us in 2019 after six years building custom steel entry systems for architects in Oakland and San Francisco. She handles our new gate installations and the welding repairs that other companies decline, including aluminum gate cracks and wrought-iron hinge rebuilds. Dana is certified in MIG and TIG welding and holds the OSHA 30-hour credential, which matters when we’re working on hillside properties with limited access. Her detail: she sketches every installation in pencil before touching CAD software, and her field notebooks from the last five years fill an entire filing drawer.
Elena R., Service Coordinator
Elena is the live voice that answers when you call (510) 879-5471 at 2 a.m. because your gate is stuck open and the dog is in the yard. She’s been with us since 2021 and knows the inventory status of every motor model we stock, which means she can tell you immediately whether we have your part or need to source it. Elena schedules every job, confirms technician ETAs by text, and follows up after completion to make sure the documentation packet arrived. Her detail: she speaks Spanish and Portuguese fluently, which has quietly made us the default choice for several Berkeley property-management companies with multilingual tenant bases.
Jesse K., Apprentice Technician
Jesse started with us in 2023 after completing the industrial maintenance program at Laney College. He’s currently shadowing Marcus on diagnostic calls and working toward his first factory certification in gate automation. Jesse already handles routine maintenance, lubrication schedules, and safety-edge testing on his own, and he’s developing a specialty in solar-powered gate operators, which we’re seeing more of in off-grid properties in the Berkeley Hills. His detail: he rides a bicycle to every job within five miles of our dispatch point, carrying his tools in panniers, and has never been late.
One Standard, Every Job

Vance Gate Repair Berkeley operates under the Haven Standard, the same set of rules that governs every crew in our network across California. That means Adrian or a senior technician delivers a written, flat price before any work begins, fulfilling Haven Standard Clause 1. It means every visit, whether a quick adjustment or a full motor replacement, leaves behind a documented photo record under Clause 4: what we found, what we changed, and what the gate tested at when we finished. And it means every completed repair is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise, if anything we fixed doesn’t stay fixed, we make it right with no additional charge and no expiration date within that window. The team you read about above is the team that upholds that standard on every job in Berkeley, from the flatlands near the marina to the winding roads of the hills.
